What I’ve been up to

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been almost 2 months since I’ve updated here. I feel like August and September blew by so quickly. I actually just realized that I never wrote a blog for days 7-10 of our trip in Tampa. I’m really sad that I never did this because those days were filled with amazing memories. I still have the notes from the trip so maybe I will get to that one day this week. Here is what I’ve been up to:

In August, the WPT series at Parx went very well. I didn’t fare too well in the tournaments but the cash games were very good. Just as I thought they would, Parx did a great job in their first major tournament series and I can’t wait until the next one.

In September, I spent a little over two weeks in Brigantine for the WPT series at Borgata. Three of us split a condo down there because it was a cheaper option than staying at the Borgata or driving back and forth every day. Again, I didn’t do particularly well in the tournaments but the hours I played in the cash games went well. In the main event, I made it to day 3 but was eliminated by David Pham just shy of the money when I lost with A10 to his 44 all in before the flop. I was very encouraged by my patience and my play throughout this series though and feel like it’s just a matter of time before I have a few more decent tournament results.

This week, I returned to Parx for cash games. The 10/10 game didn’t really run that often during the day when we were gone so we spent this week trying to get the game started as usual. It was hit or miss most days so I’m hoping that now that people know we are back and starting the games they will come in to play during the day.

Over the last two months, I’ve really focused hard on meeting my exercise and diet goals. About 6 weeks ago, I began using an app called C25k at the recommendation of a friend (check out her blog http://fueledbywings.com)  to train for a 5k race that I’m running tomorrow. At that time, I had never run more than 1 mile outside. I’m now fully prepared to run the 5k tomorrow, having run 3 practice 5k’s this week with a best time of 26:26. I’m so excited to run the race tomorrow!

One week ago, I weighed in at 199 lbs. which is the first time I’ve been under 200 lbs. since High School. I plan on writing a full blog in the next few days detailing my weight loss journey and complete with a slideshow of pictures showing my progress over the last two years. I started really focusing on getting in better shape October 2nd, 2010 so I think I will write the entry on Tuesday since it will be exactly 2 years.

I have spent a lot of time working on Spoolios lately. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the site, it’s a sports news web site that allows you to customize your “spool” so that you receive news stories on only the teams, players, and leagues that you care about. Your spool is in news feed format and the stories come from over 1100 blogs and news sites around the web.

I have been doing my best to spread the word via our Twitter and Facebook accounts and by networking with local and national sports media. It seems like most people who check out the site really enjoy it and end up using it daily. If you guys have any suggestions for the site or creative ways to market it please feel free to contact me!

I have also spent a lot of time looking into other business opportunities. If anyone has any ideas and they would like my input or would like to possibly collaborate with me on a project, please contact me.

I’m also so incredibly proud of my wife and her business, Avatations. She has been working her butt off building the business and her hard work has paid off as she is now receiving a lot of orders. You can get in touch with her on her facebook page or by e-mailing jody@avatationpaperco.com.

My girls recently turned 4 and 2 which is just insane. Ava started pre-school a few weeks ago and Cam is learning new words every day. They are both such a handful at this age though. I can’t thank Jody enough for everything she does for our family. Handling these crazy kids and taking care of the millions of other things she does every day while trying to build a business isn’t easy so she deserves all of the credit in the world. I have been gone for so much lately between playing poker and other obligations and she has never once complained. I’m incredibly fortunate to have someone who is so supporting, understanding and patient. Most importantly though, I know that she believes in me.

Sorry to all of you who have looked for more frequent updates. I will have the weight loss post up here on Tuesday and hope to begin updating more regularly.
